One short life
Chasin' rainbows
To the end.
One dark night
Now they're gone
How many memories?
Perhaps forgotten,
How they'd fight
(To) pass the light.
Oh, if you could be here now
I know you'd be(feel) the same.
You had no ear for mourning,
And you didn't die for fame.
So spin me back the ages;
I know you once were real.
Not just a word on pages,
And show me how you'd feel.
Time passes
Slowly away.
But I've got a funny feeling
That you're here today.
...Here today?
Oh, if you could be here now
I know you'd be(feel) the same.
You had no ear for mourning,
And you didn't die for fame.
If all the troubled spirits
Who were cast in man's blind path
Could lend their quiet assistance
The next might be the last.
The last.

While it may not be clearly obvious, this song is basically about all the people who were killed or persecuted throughout history - even though they were often in the RIGHT.
I could compile a list of names, but if you look at MANY of the scientific discoveries and the history behind them, you will find that often the bearers of new (and correct) information were often banished, tormented or even killed. Galileo is one who comes to mind. I am sure you can think of others.
This can also apply to those who seek social advances, including ML King Jr, and of course Jesus Christ who spoke a message only of Love and Faith and was brutally executed for it.
I wish that all the 'ghosts' of these 'martyrs' could come and intervene whenever cruel repression is about to happen today or in the future. I truly wish that ignorant brutes could be haunted forever by the spirits of all the fine people put here by God that they have wronged.
Then perhaps progress wouldn't be such a struggle for the human species.
