So-o-o
Don't be late
'Cause it's August 28th
And you've got a special date
With your destiny.
And when the hands on the clock
Point to 08:48
You will feel the hands of fate
Are upon you.
In the next life you'll be free
Like the birds of the air
And you will not have a care
For what to do or what to wear
Or the way you comb your hair.
Maybe next time around
You'll be lost and never found
By the never ending sound
That brings your down.
And each 28th of August
Could have been so much more.
And each 28th of August
Should have been so much more.
Ooo Ooo, Ahh Ahh
Hands of Fate
Over You
Ooo Ooo, Ahh Ahh
Hands of Fate
Follow You
Then at 08:49
You said "Maybe one more time"
For there was nothing left of Rhyme
Nor of Reason.
So another year may pass,
'tho time may never last,
But at least you'll hang in
For Another Season
And each 28th of August
Now can be so much more.
And each 28th of August
It will be so much more.
Ooo Ooo, Ahh Ahh
Hands of Fate
Over You
Ooo Ooo, Ahh Ahh
Hands of Fate
Follow You
I thought I heard you say
"I must have something in my eye".
The jester was off playing
When we missed our time to fly.

While 'The Recent Future' CD does not have a literal 'theme' or storyline like the 'All Systems Go' CD, it does have a loose underlying them of unexpected reversals.
True to that undercurrent, this song is about a couple driving in a car. As they speed through an intersection they didn't notice that the had run through a red light. A truck was barrelling through at high speed. By all rights, it should have broadsided them and they probably would have died. But somehow, and seemingly without human cause, the truck swerved almost as if blown aside just enough to miss them.
I wonder if, in that moment when time seems to nearly stop, perhaps the words and notions of this song flashed quickly through the mind of the car's lucky driver?
I wonder if the day he almost died (August 28th) meant something more every year thereafter? Or perhaps he mourned having wasted every other 'August 28th' that came in his life before 'that' day?
I wonder if people stop to realize how lucky they are to be alive each day, and how it is strange that we sometimes don't realize it until it is almost too late.
